Missions Ministry

"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit."  Matthew 28:19 (NIV)

The heart of who we are and what we do is missions and evangelism. We contribute to the financial support of over 10,000 full-time missionaries in North America and around the world through the Cooperative Program of the Southern Baptist Convention. Additionally, through our Missions budget and special emphasis offerings, we help support like-minded local, national, and international ministries such as:

The membership of MSBC is involved in on-going mission opportunities that include children's discipleship, special offerings, building projects, Vacation Bible Schools, Music ministry, and door to door evangelism. Some specific examples include:

  • The Lottie Moon Christmas Offering is collected annually. This special emphasis offering is sponsored by the International Mission Board. MSBC participates each year in this endeavor to support international missionaries who work to spread the gospel to foreign lands.
  • Each year at Easter, through a program sponsored by the North American Mission Board, MSBC participates in collecting the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering which supports missionaries working in North America.
  • Samaritan's Purse sponsers an annual outreach "Operation Christmas Child" whereby individuals fill shoeboxes with toys and small gifts for needy children around the world - children who may be suffering because of war, poverty or natural disaster. The children who receive these boxes also hear about God's greatest gift of all -- His Son, Jesus Christ.
  • The Southern Baptist Conservatives of Virginia is participating in the "Southern Cross Partnership" whereby we will participate in proclaiming the gospel to Chinese tourists in Southeast Asia. This project will hopefully lead to the planting of self-supporting churches inside China.
  • "Backpacks for Armenian Children" is another project of The Southern Baptist Conservatives of Virginia. MSBC members supply backpacks filled with school supplies to help the children of Armenia who would otherwise not have these basic items.
Locally, MSBC works to introduce the New River Valley community to the church and ministry opportunity. Some of these special outreaches include the following:
  • Awana. This program is a ministry for preschoolers through sixth grade -- a program where spiritual learning and fun go hand in hand.
  • Military Family Support. MSBC offers various support services for local military families while our American soldiers are serving their country.
  • Vacation Bible School. This annual summer event provides an opportunity for everyone from children to adults to gather together and study God's word.
  • Wilderness Trail Days. This annual fall festival brings thousands of people to the New River Valley. MSBC provides snacks, family space for activities, musical presentations, and education on the various ministries of the church. We look forward each year to sharing the love of the Lord Jesus with our community.
